Install sizes for video games have been ballooning in recent years, with several modern AAA shooters crossing -- or in some cases, blowing past -- the 100 GB threshold. Battlefield 2042 (100 GB) and Destiny 2 (105 GB, even with vaulting content) are two notable examples, but another notable offender in that space is about to make things a little easier on your hard drive.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare took up a whopping 175 GB of space when it launched in 2019, but the next installment of the series is going to lighten the load a bit. Activision announced on Twitter today that Call of Duty: Vanguard will take up significantly less space than prior titles in the series:

Given Modern Warfare's gargantuan footprint, a reduction of 30-50% might still put it over 100 GB, but it would still represent a savings of somewhere in the vicinity of 50-90 GB of space. That's enough room to add at least one more large game, and probably several, with gigabytes to spare. You won't even need to delete all your porn to make room for it!

Of course, a sub-100 GB Vanguard just means that Activision can ramp up the next few releases until we're back in the same situation a few years down the line, with game install sizes again creeping toward 200 GB. By then, we'll hopefully all be able to afford bigger hard drives.
