A Shiny, New Free Expansion Is Coming To V Rising In May
Prepare for a “massive overhaul to spellcasting and magic progression” as well.
Vampires may only work at night, but when they’re working, they’re getting stuff done. Case in point, V Rising’s latest developer update post. According to today’s post, the team has been working on serious overhauls to the fantasy game’s magic system. They’ve also been hard at work on a free expansion. That expansion is the game’s first major content release and is slated to arrive in May.
Before we get into the expansion, let’s talk about something a bit more immediate. Players of V Rising likely recall being asked to fill out surveys during the testing stage of the game. As it turns out, that wasn’t just busy work. The devs took that player feedback seriously.
One of the big things that were addressed by players was the need for a greater spell variety and in-depth reactions. As a result of this, they’ll be updating spells over time, adding layers to them, introducing individual spell modifications, and connecting the various spell types. The result should be the ability to create more intentional builds. More details on how these new systems will work can be found in the dev post on the V Rising site.
As for the new expansion, it’s still a bit off – due to arrive in May. No, there’s no specific date yet. The focus of this update is to set up new ways to live out those vampire dreams. This means building out more of the game and creating a solid endgame. For those wanting their best vampire home, a big focus will be on allowing players to build bigger and better lairs, but there will also be new weapons and magic, new areas to explore, and – of course – new bosses and factions to fight against.
Finally, the post also discusses a new experimental feature – Territories. This feature would allow players to claim land rather than placing a castle heart. Ideally, it will allow more players to fit into the world easily. That should keep players from messing with each other’s bases – even if it’s what they’d really like to do. It will also prevent clans from hoarding land and it will help the devs determine how much activity is really taking place on a server. Once again, this means a survey needs to be filled out, but we’re sure players can handle that.
