A "Running, Tactical Game?" That's A New One For Me. "RunOut" Public Multiplayer Demo Starts Today
This one is bizarre from top to bottom and words sometimes fail me.
What is a "tactical running game?" Yeah, I wouldn't have any clue until the press release for RunOut explained it. Maybe I would have guessed something like "Mirror's Edge" or some other parkour-type game, but nope. RunOut from WakaStudio is more along the lines of a Fall Guys kind of game. No, it's not the same, but similar. We actually got to see the game initially revealed back at the Future Games Show.
Take up to 6 players, throw them into a side-scrolling or vertically scrolling randomly generated level and use your character's abilities to run, jump, and blast your way to be the first to reach the...(checks notes)...teddy bear. I'm serious. Get the damn bear and don't let the other players get it.
Yes, all of this is super odd and it's very much made in the "cute" spirit, but maybe it could be fun? WakaStudio says the game is easy to pick up and only requires using 5 buttons to play, but the character abilities make the strategy behind each race pretty deep.
Sometime today, RunOut will start a public demo, but it isn't available quite yet. I am assuming it will be on Steam, so just keep checking back. The game will also be getting new additions later this month that include a new map, a teams mode, and a hunting mode.
I can't help but wonder how long this game will actually last though. There's clearly some translation issues going on in some of the videos below and some other aspects of the game seem to be done on the cheap, but maybe it could be a bit of fun...depending on pricing, which hasn't been revealed yet, either.
Check out the initial reveal video below and the new video, too. My favorite part of the newer video is the quote, "designed for any players who love running and blow everything up." Some of the on-screen text is amusing, too.
P.S. My favorite character is Salmon...although "Guy" is another good one.
