UPDATED: A Datacenter Power Failure Means If You Wanted To Play The Elder Scrolls Online Today You Should Pick A Different Game
Current outage estimates point to at least 12 hours of downtime.
If you were planning to get in some time with The Elder Scrolls Online today and are on the EU or NA Megaservers, you probably should just pick a different MMORPG to play. It's unlikely you'll be in game anytime soon.
About an hour ago, as of this writing, the dev team started investigating reports of outages and connection issues. Turns out there was a datacenter power failure that took down EU and NA Megaservers and the ESO account pages. While the team was initially looking to restore services as soon as possible, updates from the team point to at least a 12 hour outage.
While we continue to investigate, we want to let you know this outage affecting @TESOnline is going to take a significant amount of time to recover from. The current estimation is at least 12 hours. We will continue to provide updates as we have information to share.

Obviously downtime always feels bad for players, but many players are wondering how this outage, which again could be longer than the 12 hours forecasted like it was last time, will impact multiple things like subscribers who will now be losing about a day of their sub (at minimum), daily login bonuses or endeavors, and the ESO Plus trial that was supposed to start today.
A previous outage this year ended up causing about a week's worth of issues for the team and resulted in player compensation and, unfortunately, rollbacks. We'll have to wait to see how bad this outage will end up being.
This should make for an interesting ESO Live stream tomorrow...if it still happens. You can follow the outage updates on the official forums.
UPDATE: Yep, the outage will last more than the initially announced 12 hours but the new timeline won't be revealed until the team finishes more work including a full reboot of all hardware and all testing required for that process.
UPDATE 2 12/13/2024: A new update states that repairs are progressing and a new time estimate for the restoral of PC megaservers is targeting 10:00 AM EST. That should be literally any minute now. If they do come up soon, that'll put the outage at just shy of being 24 hours.
UPDATE 3 12/13/2024: PC servers are back up. The team is working on other platforms now and anticipates opening them later today.
UPDATE 4 12/13/2024 3:00 PM EST: Console servers are back up. Now we wait to see what compensation/trial extensions are given.
UPDATE 5 12/13/2024 6:00 PM EST: Elder Scrolls is passing out compensation in the way of an extension of the ESO Plus free trial by a day (until the 20th), and adding to the first two days of the January login bonuses with 1000 Seals of Endeavor and 5 Grand Gold Coast XP Scrolls.
