A Closer Look At Charon And His Abilities In Smite, Just Don't Forget To Pay The Ferryman
The Ferryman requires payment.
Today we get a behind-the-scenes look at the development of Charon in Smite, the ideas behind him, and our first glimpse at his abilities. Charon, also known as the Ferryman, is responsible for transporting souls across the five rivers of Hades. A payment of coin is, of course, required for passage onto his barge.
Charon is slated to play the Guardian role in the MOBA and leans heavily into the motifs of death, water, and souls. While Charon is a skeletal being, the devs wanted him to still look strong and powerful rather than old and decrepit. Charon will steer his boat throughout the battlefields of Smite, using his oar as his primary weapon. Charon is a Guardian intended to be played as support but the Smite devs say he does have some flexibility to rotate into the solo lane.
While we haven't seen a full video breakdown of Charon's abilities just yet, they did list their effects in a blog post today.
It sounds like his passive will generate gold and collect the ferryman's toll from the deceased. Charon has a skillshot that can explode, creating damaging trails of water. He has a marking debuff that rewards allies for fighting alongside Charon, an extended dash ability with different durations of Crowd Control, and a global projectile that helps allies charge into battle sounds like his Ultimate.
