The Initial Wait Is Over: 6v6 Tests Announced In Overwatch 2 Director’s Take Blog
Two different tests will run during Season 14.
Back in July, players were told to be patient. Now, Overwatch 2 players who have been hoping for 6v6 gameplay may be getting what they want. Provided, of course, the tests go well. Yes, the dev team is preparing to test 6v6 in the team shooter. In fact, there will be two tests.
The first test, launching a week into Season 14, will be a variation of Open Queue. Rather than sticking to 2-2-2 role requirements, teams may be composed of groups that have no less than one of each role and no more than 3 of any role. Players are allowed to switch roles on the fly in matches so long as these limits aren’t broken in the process.
The other 6v6 test will kick off during Season 14’s midcycle. This one will be the 2-2-2 composition, but will include new principles.
Depending on how testing goes, and how players respond to it, it’s not out of the question that in the future Overwatch 2 will have both 5v5 and 6v6 modes.
