1C Game Studios Suspends Service Of Its Caliber FPS On Servers Outside Of Russia
Progress will be kept, and players can connect to Russian servers.
In an email sent to players, Moscow-based developer 1C Game Studios said that it "cannot guarantee [service] for users playing on servers that are inaccessible from Russia" for its free-to-play shooter Caliber. Accounts and progress for players outside of Russia will not be erased.
"We have no estimation on when circumstances will change for the better," 1C said. "Therefore, we have decided to suspend servers in Europe, America, and Asia until the predictable development of Caliber in these regions becomes possible again."
Though not expressly stated in the message, this is undoubtedly due to the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia and the sanctions being placed on the latter country. That includes what NBC describes as Russia being "nearly isolated online," as major internet companies have stopped servicing the country. Despite that, 1C said that players in Europe, Asia, and the Americas will still be able to connect to Russian servers while the servers in their regions are unavailable.
If they can connect, they'll have 0.14.1 to enjoy on March 23, which will bring better performance and connectivity "no matter what country or region you are in." Update 0.14.2 arrives on March 30 and adds a new mode, Interception, and kicks off a new ranked season. Update 0.15.0 will follow in April.
