1047 Games Ending Development On Splitgate To Work On Sequel
The new game will be created using Unreal Engine 5.
Development on 1047 Games’ shooter Splitgate is coming to an end. The company announced its plans this morning via Twitter and a post on the game’s site. The simple rundown of the post is that at this point in the game’s development, they’ve determined that rather than continuing to rework existing content and systems that were once built by a small team – “bailing water” as they put it – it would be best to focus on giving the game new life in a new form.
As mentioned, this does mean stopping development on the current game, but it also means a new Splitgate, built on more current tech (Unreal Engine 5), with features that players likely want to be cooked in from the start.
That doesn’t mean the current game is going away just yet. Instead, they’re planning to roll out a new Battle Pass on September 15. It will be free to everyone. Speaking of which, the UE5 Splitgate game will be free-to-play whenever it launches.
To answer questions, the team posted links to an FAQ, a Discord Town hall, and a Reddit AMA on Twitter. You can find all of these in the thread below.
