With Steam Next Fest winding down and some demos coming to a close this weekend, we're taking a look at 5 multiplayer games or MMO games that were at the event offering a chance for players to check them out. While we won't be sticking to any particular genre in this list, we are giving you the top 5 games coming from the event that we're interested in, enjoyed playing, or will be keeping very close eyes on as 2025 continues.

While many of these titles don't have full release dates scheduled yet, we do anticipate that most of them will offer some form of more generally available testing this year at minimum. Given that, if any of them interest you, it's probably worth hitting up their Steam pages and wishlisting them so you know what's coming. I'll be sure to link each Steam page somewhere in my text for you.

I'll give an honorable mention here for Funcom's Dune: Awakening. The game was technically at Steam Next Fest and it's certainly a survival game we're watching closely, but I hesitate to give it a spot on this list since their "showing" at the festival was only a release of their benchmark and character creator.

In no particular order:

Fellowship

What can I say about Fellowship that I haven't already said? I love MMORPG PvE content, particularly dungeons and raids. A game that pulls JUST that content out and makes it the sole focus of things is right up my alley. Pick from a roster of characters with tank, healer, or DPS roles, hit up dungeons, and keep running them to take on bigger and more challenging dungeons.

Fellowship still needs some improvements and doesn't have a release date yet, but there's certainly something there. I think Chief Rebel will eventually need to add raid content (or at least dungeons for more than the current 4-player parties) and I do worry about the game catering to a more "hardcore" crowd a bit too much, but it seems like things should be fun for a while, at least.

That said, this is likely a game that you know right away if it is for you or not. It's unlikely to be a game that a large audience just "tries out." Without the additional MMORPG content, some players aren't going to dig this title. We'll have to see if the audience for something like Fellowship is as big as it'll need to be to support the project long-term and if a bit of a more "Mythic +" type structure turns away more casual players.

Seekers of Skyveil

There's been quite a few games entering the whole "extraction PvPvE" game space over the last year. We've seen numerous new shooters, dungeon-delving titles like Dark and Darker, and more stake their claim. Seekers of Skyveil from Elodie Games brings that genre to a game with more MOBA elements. Setting aside guns, Seekers of Skyveil uses traditional movement and ability usage commonly seen in games like League of Legends.

Hit a match in an isometric view and take on bosses, monsters, and other players while trying to gather up as much loot as you can. The gameplay loop and the gameplay style are likely familiar to many gamers, so Seekers should be relatively easy to get into, but will the game hold up over time?

Mecha BREAK

Mecha BREAK has been sending me press releases almost daily at this point, but I'm simply not really going to write up news posts about how many people played your Steam Next Fest demo and some of the other news they've sent over. That said, the game itself is certainly drawing a few eyeballs, including ours.

Every time a new mech-combat game starts showing things off, I'm here for it. 3v3 and 6v6 content are on the table and so is a wide array of customization options for both your mech and your ACE pilot. What more could you want? Ok, how about a few different modes including 3v3 Deathmatch, Extraction, and 6v6 hero shooter?

Clearly I'm not alone in my interest because over 300,000 people were playing the game at one point and it narrowly edged out Marvel Rivals for most players online on Steam...even if it was just for a few moments. There, Mecha BREAK, I brought up your impressive showing!

Splitgate 2

Ok, to be super fair, Splitgate 2 wasn't TECHNICALLY part of Steam Next Fest officially. However, the insane portal-based shooter did launch its "open alpha" during the event, so I'm counting it. This sequel to the very popular original was a bit of a mystery when it was first "announced." Splitgate was doing very well and was receiving a ton of funding, and the team decided to just pull away from it unexpectedly.

They said they were going to work on another game in the IP and then kind of disappeared. Fast forward to today and the sequel has garnered some really positive impressions for improving on the original in many ways. The latest test even offered an 8v8v8 mode on a map 20 times larger than any map either game has ever released.

The test is running on multiple platforms (probably why it wasn't Steam Next Fest specific) and will run until March 2nd so you still have a few days to hop in if you're curious.

Descenders Next

Here's one for you racers/sports games enthusiasts. Descenders NEXT actually releases very soon. While the fest offers a demo that lets you get your downhill racing on solo or in races consisting of players from around the world, you can get the full game on April 9th.

With total freestyle control, a soundtrack by Monstercat, and a pretty nifty clip-making system, Descenders NEXT will provide plenty of downhill thrills...we hope.

Either way, we're all in favor of busting out sick tricks to gain fame and fortune while boosting our rep and becoming the next legendary Descender.

That's 5 games that should give you a pretty broad range of genres to explore. Remember, Steam Next Fest had hundreds of games shown off this past week and, while we can't go through all of them, there's plenty for you to keep you own eyes on.
