Exoprimal Is Still Fun Three Months Later, But Way Too Stale To Be Worth Revisiting
The Title Update 2 is here, but the game is still as repetitive as ever.
Have you checked out Exoprimal? If so, are you still playing it? For those unfamiliar, the game is a third-person hero shooter by Capcom that combines PvE and PvP twist. (Also there’s dinosaurs.) Exoprimal is available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC for $60. It’s accessible through Game Pass, too.
Recently, the game received its Title Update 2. This patch includes Season 2 and a new Survival Pass, as well as special rewards, Halloween and Holiday Campaigns, and a Double EXP Campaign. There’s a new map, Final Mission, rigs, modules, and even a Street Fighter 6 Collaboration. I decided to jump back in, having previously logged almost 100 hours in before eventually getting bored and stopping altogether.
Unfortunately though, a new season doesn’t make Exoprimal any more (or less) interesting than it already was. I assume that most people who tried this game out this past July when Exoprimal dropped played for a dozen hours and then moved on to a different game. That’s because repetition plagues Exoprimal, and not in a good way like games such as Overwatch, Warframe, Destiny, Apex Legends, Call of Duty, etc.
Now personally, I had a blast playing Dino Survival — Exoprimal’s literal only game mode — over and over to complete the main campaign/story…and then grind out cosmetics via loot boxes and the first season’s game pass. That got old eventually, though. I even returned to the game to check out the new Alpha Variant Exosuits. It still wasn’t enough to keep me playing much longer. Now with the second season here, it’s just more of the same really; which sucks, because Exoprimal is fun as heck at its core.
It’s not too late though to save this game, Capcom! I have some suggestions.
Why don’t you let us vote on maps before a match begins? I’m so sick of playing on the city one for the millionth time. On that note, could you please speed up the process for players even getting to play in the first place? It takes way too long to get into a game. And why are we still stuck playing Dino Survival only? It’s great we’re able to choose between PvP and PvE, but as someone who enjoys fighting the enemy team, I hate having to go through the mandatory PvE phase every single time to get to the fun part.
I believe those recommendations alone would make Exoprimal a lot better, because right now I am burned out from waiting almost 10 dang minutes to get into a dang match just to be placed on the dang city map and have to shoot the same dang dinosaurs before I finally get to the dang PvP which is the only dang part of the game I enjoy. Just give us some dang options, Capcom! Dang you…I mean, thank you.
